Peterson's choir singing at the 2026 Choral Fest

Dear Peterson Families,

Prior to our leave on Spring break, our upper grade Dolphins represented Peterson well at HBCSD's 9th annual choral concert under the direction of Ms. Miars. Great job, choir!

Please see the following highlights of events happening at Peterson and throughout our district this week.

Counselor's Corner . . .

Hello Parents,

During the month of April, our school counselor will be teaching our primary grade students all about coping skills. Throughout the lesson, she will be going over various coping skills kids can use when they are feeling mad, sad, frustrated, angry or any other feelings. Parents can help by reviewing with their children at home the following:

  1. Identify the feeling:  What are they feeling?  Help them name what it is they are feeling.
  2. What is causing their feelings?  Help them figure out what is causing their distress, frustration, or anger.
  3. ACT: Choose a coping skill that will help them remain calm so that they can think clearly on how to solve the problem.

Our upper grade students will be learning about Executive Functioning Skills and how to manage anxiety. These skills help students stay on track and improve their school success. Here are some strategies that you can go over with your child at home:

  1. Planning: Encourage your child to start a big project by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable tasks.
  2. Prioritizing Tasks: Encourage your child to make a list of tasks or homework assignments, and help them decide which ones are most important or need to be done first.
  3. Emotional Control: Review with your child things they can do to help themselves calm down and stay focused when they are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stressed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our school counselor, Mei Pauw, at mpauw@hbcsd.us
