Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) proudly celebrates two exceptional leaders who have profoundly impacted our students, staff, and community. Mrs. Ashlin Connolly, Director of Food Services, and Dr. Leisa Winston, Superintendent, have been recognized by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 17 for their leadership, advancement, and commitment to student success.
Mrs. Ashlin Connolly: ACSA Classified Champion Award Recipient
HBCSD recognizes Mrs. Ashlin Connolly, Director of Food Services, as the 2025 ACSA Region 17 Classified Champion Award recipient. In just over two years, Mrs. Connolly has revolutionized the District’s food services program, transforming it into a model of progress, sustainability, and student engagement.
Under her leadership, school meal participation has increased significantly, thanks to her focus on student preferences and quality ingredients. Whether developing a creative dipping sauce that meets nutrition guidelines or spearheading the Harvest of the Month program, which introduces students to fresh, locally sourced produce, Mrs. Connolly consistently finds ways to enhance the student experience.
Her commitment to sustainability is equally impressive. She was key in launching a zero-food-waste initiative at Sowers Middle School, repurposing food scraps into nutrient-rich compost for the school garden. Additionally, her leadership in revamping the food services website has made nutritional information more accessible, ensuring students with dietary restrictions have the necessary resources.
Beyond her ingenuity in food services, Mrs. Connolly is a dedicated collaborator. She actively engages with parents, staff, and community partners to promote student wellness. Whether hosting a Back-to-School Night meal tasting or leading planning discussions, her positive energy and problem-solving mindset make her an indispensable member of HBCSD.
