Peterson Elementary Newsletter
Week of October 28th
Dear Peterson Families,
It was great seeing everyone at Parent-Teacher Conferences this past week. This week, we return to a (mostly) normal schedule with Friday being a non-student in-service day for staff members.

Also, this past Friday was our second Dolphin Depot Day where students were able to 'purchase' (with earned S.U.R.F. points) various treats and experiences around campus.....haven't heard of this yet?....ask your student for all the details! I am happy to share that I delivered over 200+ purchases to students!

I would also like to take this opportunity to commend our entire Peterson community for an incredible show of support for all our Dolphins in our Color Fun Run fundraiser! By the time we ended our fundraiser on Friday, our Dolphins had blown past both their $50k goal and their $60k school goal, with total donations coming in at over $61,000+! AMAZING!!!! This means that tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 28th, will be a school-wide pajama day! Additionally, we will celebrate their accomplishment with an extra recess (to-be-scheduled) as well! I would like to extend a big 'thank you' to Melissa Knudtson and the entire PTA Executive Board for the countless hours poured into this event so far. If you are interested in helping out with the event for the day-of (Thursday, Nov. 14th) please reach out and we will make sure you have everything needed to volunteer).

Looking ahead, we will celebrate out veterans on Friday, November 8th at 9:45. Are you a veteran or do you know a veteran who you would like us to honor? Please reach out to myself or Ms. Flory and we will be honored to include you on that day!

Please note that costumes are not allowed at school for Halloween. We encourage everyone to celebrate safely, outside of school hours.

With Dolphin Pride,

Dr. Smith-Johnson
Principal
School News
Peterson's School Site Council Update:
Due to several reasons including end of terms, student matriculation and family moves, all five Parent/Community Member seats were open for our School Site Council positions. Luckily, we had five Peterson parents step forward to self-nominate during our nomination window last month and with five seats open and five nominations, there is no need for a formal election. I am excited to announce the following parents who will serve on this year's School Site Council:

Nicole Golper - Parent of a 2nd grader
Mary Schiesser - Parent of a 2nd and 3rd grader
Melissa Knudtson - Parent of a 3rd grader
Melissa McNair - Parent of a 2nd grader
Mike Heh - Parent of a 4th grader

This group of parents will work with myself and a group of Peterson staff members (Serafano, Burgos, Geiger and Hansen) to develop/approve items throughout the year for Peterson students such as: our annual S.P.S.A., our formal Safety Plan, our Prop. 28 Plan, and many other critical items throughout the year. While the aforementioned are the voting members of the committee, all members of the public are welcome to attend any/all School Site Council meetings and are encouraged to do so.

We are still looking for three more parents of English learners to form our English Learner Advisory Council as well. If you are interested (or know somebody who may be interested) in serving in this position, please email Dr. Smith-Johnson directly.

2024 Color Fun Run Update:
Our Dolphins have earned our fourth and fifth school wide prizes! ! !

On Friday, we celebrated achieving our school-wide goal of $40,000 with music at recess and we will celebrate hitting the $50,000 goal in pajamas tomorrow! We will also celebrate hitting our $60,000 school wide goal with an extra recess (still to be scheduled) and we will announce the many other goals (top student in each grade level, top class, etc.) shortly.

Great job to all our Dolphins, especially their parents and grandparents, and the many others who have donated to our annual event!

We can't wait to celebrate at our Color Fun Run on Thursday, November 14th! Specific class/grade schedules will be shared shortly.
